Age and life style - another important cause of Diabetes


As the age increases the chances of becoming diabetic are increased. People above the age of 50 years have more chances of becoming diabetic than younger people. This may be contributed to decreased metabolic rate and decreased physical activity of the body. Sedentary lifestyle is one of the main causes of diabetes because it directly affects the metabolism. People with sedentary lifestyle or less physical activity tend to get overweight and this leads to diabetes especially at later stages of life. People with BMI more than 25 can easily get diabetic. This is why it is essential for us to include exercise is our routine in some form at least three times a week.

Diet - a common cause of Diabetes


One must be cautious about his diet because poor diet is also one of the causes of diabetes. People who do not take enough fiber and proteins and whose diet is mainly composed of refined products have high risk of turning diabetic. High cholesterol level and high level of triglyceride is directly linked to high sugar level in blood. These causes are also linked to weight gain and improper metabolism.

Pathological factors and Hormone


Insulin is required by the body to move glucose into the cells and if insulin level in the body drops or if insulin is not used properly by the body then a person becomes diabetic. This is why infection or any other pancreatic disease can also be a reason for diabetes because if pancreas does not function properly they would not secrete insulin in the required quantity.
If we analyze all the causes then we can conclude than diabetes is somehow related to weight, metabolism and excess of glucose in the body. These three conditions may arise because of poor diet, a sedentary lifestyle or intake of carbohydrates and fat in excessive quantity. To reduce the risk of diabetes we need to work on the causes of diabetes.
We need to keep a check on our habits and lifestyle and see if knowingly or unknowingly we have induced habits which can become a cause for diabetes over a period of time. Here are a few things which we can do in order to stay safe and reduce the chances of becoming diabetic:
  • Exercising 3-4 times a week at least for 45 minutes.

  • Eating high fiber food and a balanced diet.

  • Reducing the intake of fats especially unsaturated fats and carbohydrates.

  • Controlling weight and losing weight if overweight especially after the age of 45 years.

  • Taking small and frequent meals and being religious about taking breakfast.

  • All these habits not only reduce the risk of diabetes but also improve our overall health by improving metabolism. This helps us in staying stress free and feeling energetic. It is always said that it is better to prevent than cure a disease and if we know the causes of diabetes then it should not be difficult for us to reduce its risk.
